A Twitter Lead Generation Card is a quick and easy way engage users in a social platform and invite them to sign up for an email newsletter.

Lead Generation Card Setup

You create and configure a Twitter Lead Generation Card in a Twitter Ads account. You can configure a Twitter Card so that it adds the Twitter user to a group in Mapp Engage.

To assist you with the configuration, Mapp Engage includes a window that displays the data you need to properly configure the card for a specific group. You can copy the values required for setup from this window and paste them into the input fields for the Twitter Card. For more information, see Values for Twitter Card (window).

What Data is Sent by Twitter?

When a Twitter user clicks to expand a Tweet containing a Lead Generation Card, the user sees the contact information that will be sent to Mapp Engage. When the user clicks the call-to-action button, the following information is sent to Mapp Engage:

  • Email address
The email address is used to create a new user account in Mapp Engage.

  • Twitter handle (@username)
The Twitter handle is mapped to the user profile attribute user[Nickname].

  • Name
Twitter stores both first and last names in the same field. Mapp Engage separates these values according to a set of rules regarding the placement of empty characters and stores the values in the Mapp Engage user profile attributes user[firstName] and user[lastName].

A Twitter user is generally identified by their handle and not by name. The name entered in a Twitter user profile can be incomplete or inaccurate. Follow these guidelines to avoid problems with incomplete user profiles:

  • Prevent collection of bad data by leaving this field blank in the setup of the Twitter Card.

  • Keep leads generated by Twitter Cards separate from other groups in Mapp Engage.

  • Avoid sending messages that use these attributes in personalizations to members of these groups.

  • Provide links to landing pages that let contacts manage and update their profile data.

Subscription Processes

Leads are added to a group according to the subscription process started when the membership request is received by Mapp Engage. The type of process used is determined by the setup of the Twitter Card. The following processes are supported:

  • Single Opt-in: New contacts receive a welcome message via email when they are added to the group.

  • Double Opt-in: New contacts receive an invitation to join the group via email. The contact must accept the invitation before they are added to the group.
