This job was previously called: Transfer Member.

This job performs two actions: it removes a member from a source group and adds a member to a target group. The actions are preformed simultaneously.

  • Add: The member is added to the target group. It does not matter whether he was a member of the source group.

  • Remove: The address is removed from the source group. This only applies if the user was already a member of the source group.

Hint:

In Engage, the designation (S) means system-related. Generally, you only combine system (S) events with system (S) jobs. For more information, see Contact (C) vs. System (S) Automations

Recommended Automations

An automation is a combination of an event plus a resulting job. The following combinations are recommended. It is possible to create other combinations, as well, but not all combinations of events and jobs result in meaningful system behavior.

For all of the following combinations, check Use Event Parameter for the field Contact.

  • Member Added to Group (C) + Add and Remove Member (C): This combination adds a member to the target group when he is added to another group, and removes him from the source group if he was already a member. This includes members added via API or added directly in the user interface.

  • Subscribed to Group (C) + Add and Remove Member (C): This combination adds a member to the target group when he subscribes to another group, and removes him from the source group if he was already a member.

  • Message Link Clicked (C) + Add and Remove Member (C): This combination adds a member to the target group when he clicks on a message link, and removes him from the source group if he was already a member.

  • Message Opened (C) + Add and Remove Member (C): This combination adds a member to the target group when he opens a message, and removes him from the source group if he was already a member.

General

Name

Displays the name of the automation that is defined in the Edit Event window.

Description

Displays the description of the automation that is defined in the Edit Event window.

Event

Displays the event that is defined in the Edit Event window. Every time this event occurs, Engage executes the dependent job.

Job

Defines the job. Engage executes this job automatically every time the event occurs. For a list of all available jobs, see All Available Event-Based Jobs.

Define Job

This area defines the specific parameters of the job.

  • Contact: This input field defines the contact added to the target group and removed from the source group. Use the symbol to select one contact.

    • Use Event Parameter: When selected, this checkbox takes the contact involved in the event and uses the same contact for the job.

  • Source Group: This drop-down list defines the group from which the addresses are removed. Use the  symbol to search for a specific group. This is not an unsubscribe: no confirmation is sent, and the group statistics do not show an unsubscribe.

  • Target Group: This drop-down list defines the group from which the addresses are removed. Use the  symbol to search for a specific group. Members who are pending in the source group are added to the target group with the same status. Members who are on the group blacklist of the source group are still added to the target group.

  • Notification: This input field defines whether the new members receive a notification email when they are added. Contacts who are already a member of the target group, who are on the group blacklist or who have the status pending in the group are skipped. The system does not report an error in these cases. These contacts do not receive any notification message.

    • Invite: This option defines that the contact receives an invitation to join the group. Members are not added to the group unless they accept the invitation. This is the system message SysMsgInviteToGroup. If the contact does not confirm the invitation after 14 days, the pending membership is canceled and the recipient is not added. If he accepts the invitation, he is added to the group and receives the notification email SysMsgWelcomeToGroup.

    • Add With Message: This option defines that the contact receives a notification message when he is added to the group. This is the system message SysMsgWelcomeToGroup. The SysMsgWelcomeToGroup gives the new member the possibility to immediately unsubscribe from the group by replying to the system message or clicking a link in the email.

    • Add Without Message: This option defines that the new member does not receive a notification message when he is added to the group.

Define Delay

In this area, you can define a time delay between the event and the resulting job. If you define a delay, the system waits the specified amount of time after the event takes place before executing the event-based job. If you do not define a delay, the system executes the job immediately after the event takes place.

Hint:

Engage calculates the selection for an event-based job when the job is executed, not when the event takes place. When you define a delay, the selection is calculated after the delay

  • Delay: Defines whether there is a delay between the event and the resulting job.

    • No: There is no delay between the event and the resulting job. When Engage registers the event, the system executes the job immediately.

    • Yes: Creates a delay between the event and the resulting job.
Unit: Defines the unit of time with which Engage calculates the delay.
Value: Defines the duration of the delay.
