The Time Distribution window

The Time Distribution window provides you with the ability to analyze, within a given time frame after sendout, how many recipients have opened or clicked a message. This makes it possible to analyze recipient activity over time and to adapt your campaigns accordingly, thus increasing conversions.

Basic Information

This area provides general information about a message and makes it possible to identify the sent message.

  • Subject: This entry displays the subject of the message. The subject is displayed to the recipients as the subject line of the message in their inbox. The subject line also helps you to identify the message in the system. It is obligatory for sendout.

  • Message ID: This entry displays the message ID that is automatically assigned by the system during sendout. The message ID is unique.

  • Group: This entry displays the name of the group to which the message was sent.

  • Sendout: This entry displays the date and time on which the sendout was started.

Key Performance Indicators

The area Key Performance Indicators summarizes the total number of messages and clicks by all recipients of the message.

  • Confirmed Opens: This entry displays the total number of times a message was opened.
According to the eec, this represents the total number of times an email is displayed (whether fully opened or within the preview pane). Confirmed opens include all messages where the tracking pixel was displayed and/or a link was clicked. (It is possible that some recipients opened the email with images suppressed and did not click any link; in these cases, the open cannot be counted).

  • Confirmed Openers: This entry displays the number of recipients who opened a message. If a recipient opens a message more than once, this only counts one time. Confirmed opens include all messages where the tracking pixel was displayed and/or a link was clicked.

  • Total Clicks: This entry displays the total number of clicks on this link.

  • Clickers: This entry displays the number of recipients who have clicked on any link in the message. If a recipient clicks more than one link in the message, this only counts one time. The statistical analysis of link clicks is available under the Link Analysis tab (see Link Analysis (tab)).

General Settings

In the general settings, you can select whether the clicks and opens should be evaluated on an hourly or daily basis. Furthermore, you have the option to choose which values are displayed in the graph for the selected time frame.

The time distribution is calculated as follows:

Time distribution = number of all activities recorded at the end of an interval - number of all activities recorded at the beginning of an interval

  • Select time frame: Here you select the time frame over which the opens and clicks are evaluated. After the selection of the time frame, the graph automatically updates to reflect the new settings.

    • Hourly: This radio button displays the click and open evaluation on an hourly basis. Depending on the selected Period, the results are displayed for either one or two days.

    • Daily: This radio button displays the click and open evaluation on a daily basis. Depending on the selected period, the results are displayed for up to 14 days.

  • Period: This entry defines the total length of time over which the results are displayed. Depending on the type of time frame selected (daily or hourly), the results can be displayed over a period of one (min.) to 14 (max.) days. After the selection of the time frame, the graph automatically updates to reflect the new settings.

  • Show values for: Here you can select the type of recipient activity that should be evaluated and displayed in the graph. You can choose one, several, or all values. After one or more values are checked, the graph automatically updates according to the settings. In the legend, individual values can be selected or de-selected to ensure a clear presentation of the analysis results.

    • Confirmed Opens: This entry displays the time distribution of when the message was opened.

    • Confirmed Openers: This entry displays the time distribution of confirmed openers.

    • Total Clicks: This entry displays the time distribution of total clicks.

    • Clickers: This entry displays the time distribution of clickers.

For more information, see Key Performance Indicators.

Line Chart and Legend

The line chart and legend are used for the visual display of time distribution. The system evaluates the recipient activity in a given time frame, and this is displayed in the line chart.

  • Line Chart: The chart provides a visual display of the confirmed opens, confirmed openers, total clicks, and clickers. For further information, see Key Performance Indicators. The chart automatically updates depending on the settings. Scroll the mouse over the points on each line to see the exact number of clicks or opens at that point in time.

  • Legend: The legend for the chart provides an overview of the symbols and colors used to represent each kind of activity. This makes it easier to identify each activity in the chart. Clicking on any item in the legend hides or displays the respective activity type, for example, to quickly compare between different activity types. The legend only includes those entries checked in the Show values for the area.
