Selection Plan (canvas)
Navigation Path
- In the Main Navigation, click Contacts > Segmentation Builder.
⇒ The Selection Plans window opens. - Click Create.
⇒ The Selection Plan window opens. - Define a unique name for the new selection plan and enter a description.
- Click Create.
⇒ A new selection canvas opens.
Purpose
The canvas is an area where you define the structure of the selection plan. A selection plan is a structured list of criteria that filters contacts in Mapp Engage.
What can I do in this window?
- Create a selection plan that segments your contacts into a more specific target audience.
- Configure the criteria settings in the settings panel.
- Add or remove criteria and containers to the plan.
- See how many contacts are in your selection and in each criteria.
Criteria
To add criteria to the canvas, double-click the criteria in the Add New Criteria panel. You can also drag and drop criteria onto the canvas.
To search for criteria by name, enter the first few letters of the name in the Search field. For example, enter "Last Name" in the search field.
To rearrange the criteria on the plan, drag and drop them into a new location.
Canvas Actions | Description |
---|---|
Move Criteria | Drag the criteria to a new location. Visual hints show you where you can drop the criteria on the canvas. A criteria can be repositioned to any valid position and moved into or out of a container. |
| Mouse-over the criteria to display the context menu.
|
Mouse-over the criteria to display the pencil. Edits the criteria. A settings panel opens on the right of the window. If you do not define the criteria, a warning appears on the canvas. You cannot publish the selection until you have defined all the criteria. | |
| Click this button to calculate the selection counts. As you work in the Segmentation Builder, you see three numbers:
To refresh all counts, click the icon at the top of the canvas. For more information, see Contact Counts in Segmentation Builder. |
To add a container to the canvas, double-click New Container in the Add New Criteria panel. You can also drag and drop a container onto the canvas. When you create complex selections, you use containers. A container functions like a set of brackets in a mathematical expression. With containers, you can create selections that combine both AND and OR operators in a single selection. You can create containers within a container to group criteria in different levels.
Example:
Select contacts who live in London OR drive a certain car. The car is expensive AND has a certain colour. The colour is red OR blue.
London OR (expensive AND (red OR blue)).
Operators
When you create a selection plan with multiple criteria, you combine the criteria with logical operators.
To change the operator, click the operator on the canvas.
All conditions on the same level or in the same container must have the same operator. If you change one operator on a level, the operators for all other conditions on the same level change at the same time.
Structure | Description |
---|---|
AND | The contact must match all the criteria on the level or in the container. |
OR | The contact must match one or more of the criteria on the level or in the container. |
