Administration > Log Tracker

Purpose

The Log Tracker Overview window provides a high-level summary of the events that have recently taken place in your Engage system. This information is displayed as a chart. The chart displays columns for each event class for which at least one event took place in the selected time frame. The following values are shown for each class:

  • Recent: Darker-coloured columns represent the actual number of events that took place in the selected time frame.
  • Average: Lighter-coloured columns represent the average number of events over time. This represents the average number of events that took place over the same duration represented by the selected time frame.
    Example:
    • If the selected time frame is three days, the system counts the number of events for every three-day period recorded in the log up to thirty days in the past. In this example, the totals for ten time periods are used to calculate the average.
    • If the selected time frame is greater than six days, the system does not have enough data to calculate an average. This is because the log only retains data for 30 days, and it is impossible to accurately represent historical data with fewer than six time periods for comparison.
    • If the selected time frame is less than one day, the system requires too many resources to calculate the average. Only recent values are displayed on the chart.

Compare the number of recent events with the historical average to easily recognize the irregular activity.

You will sometimes see columns for an event class where both the Recent and Average values are zero. This happens when the average over time calculates to a number lower than 0.5 and is rounded down

The chart supports the following interactive features:

  • Move the pointer over a column to display the recent and average number of events for an entry class.
  • Click a column to display the selected entry class in the Chart View window. For more information, see Chart View (window).

Available Actions

  • Rewind: This button displays the previous interval of time-related to the current time setting. For example, if the values in the To and From input fields are set one hour apart, the Rewind button displays information for the previous hour.
  • Forward: This button displays the next interval of time-related to the current time setting. For example, if the values in the To and From input fields are set one hour apart, the Rewind button displays information for the following hour.
  • Filter: This button draws the chart according to the time frame entered in the To and From input fields.
  • Clear: This button removes the values entered in the To and From input fields and clears the chart.

Filter Options

By default, the chart shows events that took place in the last 24 hours. The filter options limit the events shown on the chart to a specific time frame.

  • From: This input field determines the start date and time from which entries display on the chart. This value cannot be set to a date greater than 30 days in the past.
  • To: This input field determines the end date and time to which entries display on the chart. This value cannot be set to a date greater than 30 days in the past.

Print and Export Options

The following options are available from the drop-down list:

  • Print: Prints the chart.
  • Export: Exports the chart as an image file.
