Goal

To import group attributes into a group from an XML or CSV file.

Prerequisite

The group into which the attributes should be imported already exists in Mapp Engage.

The XML or CSV is correctly formatted for import. For more information, please see CSV Format for Group Attribute Imports or XML Format for Group Attribute Imports .

Procedure

  1. In the Main Navigation menu, click Audience > Groups.
    ⇒ The Group window opens.
  2. Next to the group into which you would like to import new group attributes, click Edit Attributes.
⇒ The Group Attributes window opens.
  3. Click Import Group Attribute.
⇒ The Group Attribute Import window opens.
  4. In the input field Upload a file, enter the path of the local file, or select the file using the Browse button.
  5. From the list field File Type, choose the format of the file (CSV or XML).
  6. In the list field Character Set of File, specify the character set of the file. For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character_encoding .

It is crucial to select the correct character set during import! The character set of a file cannot be automatically recognized by Mapp Engage. If the wrong character set is identified during import, the imported data will not be correctly displayed, and in a worst case scenario all of the available information in the system will be corrupted.

  7. From the list field Synchronization mode, define how the new group attributes will be handled in relation to the existing group attributes.

    1. Add: The new group attributes will be added to the existing attributes. Existing group attributes will not be modified. No data will be overwrite

    2. Replace: The new group attributes will replace the existing group attributes

    3. Delete: The existing group attributes will be deleted, and the new group attributes will be imported

    4. Add and update: New group attributes in the file will be added to the existing group attributes, and group attributes which already exist in the group will be updated. If a group attributes is in the list but not in the file, this group attributes will remain unchanged

    5. Update: Existing group attributes will be updated with the information of the file, but new group attributes in the file will not be added to the group

  8. If you are uploading a CSV file, enter the separator character in the input field Separator. The default separator character is a comma.

  9. Click the button Upload to upload the file.
⇒ The window Group Attributes for (Group name) appears.
In the upper part of the window, a report about the import appears. In the lower area, the attributes for the group appear.
