Purpose

This tab defines how Mapp Engage tracks contact activity that is related to email messages in the group.

What can I do in this window?

  • Configure how Mapp Engage tracks email opens and link clicks.
  • Enable inbox-monitoring to estimate the deliverability rate of messages in the group.
  • Define automatic link redirection for the group.
  • Configure link parameters that are added to links in messages to the group.

Mapp Engage can track opens for HTML messages only. The tracking pixel that is used to calculate opens cannot be inserted into a text-only message.

Setting

Description

Track Email Opens

Defines how Mapp Engage tracks whether contacts open HTML email messages in the group.

Opens are tracked only for HTML messages. The tracking pixel that Mapp Engage uses to calculate opens cannot be inserted into a text-only message.

  • Track HTML Opens with Invisible Tracking Pixel: When this check box is selected, Mapp Engage adds a transparent tracking pixel to every HTML email message sent in this Mapp Engage group. When the contact opens your message, the image is downloaded from the Mapp Engage server. This download tells Mapp Engage that the contact has opened the message. This setting allows you to calculate the Confirmed Open Rate KPI for email messages in this group.
If a contact turns images off in their email client, and does not click a link in the email, Mapp Engage cannot track an open.
    • Add Tracking Pixel - Beginning of the Message: Mapp Engage inserts the tracking pixel at the beginning of the message.
    • Add Tracking Pixel - End of the Message: Mapp Engage inserts a tracking pixel at the end of the message.
If the HTML view is deactivated in the email client of the contact, the tracking pixel link is visible at the beginning of the message.

Track Link Clicks

Defines which links Mapp Engage tracks in email messages in the group. You cannot track links in an SMS message.

  • Track Text Message Links: Activates tracking of links in text-only emails. By default, link tracking is deactivated for text messages. This option changes the URL of the link so that the link redirects briefly to a tracking site before the final destination.
  • Track HTML Message Links: Activates tracking of links in HTML emails. The links in the email are redirected briefly to the Mapp Engage system, before the target landing page. This redirection is not noticeable for the contact. However, Mapp Engage can identify the message and the clicker and save this information in the statistics. This option is activated by default.
  • Track Personalized Links: Activates tracking for personalized links. For example, in single messages. A personalized link is a link that contains a placeholder that is replaced during sendout with a value from the profile of the contact. You cannot evaluate personalized links individually. Personalized links are evaluated as an aggregate, rather than separately, because each contact receives a different personalized link. When this checkbox is activated, an evaluation of the combined personalized links is included in the statistics. You can create link categories to help to organize the different personalized links in the statistics.
  • Track System Links: Activates tracking for system links. System links include the read online, forward, unsubscribe, and edit profile links. When you create an email message, these links are available as Mapp Engage Variables.
When this checkbox is activated, all system links sent in messages to this group are tracked. This option is activated by default.
Only system links with the following format can be tracked: <%syslink_profile_edit url="/public/profile_edit.jsp"%>.
It is important to verify the format of system links before sendout.

Inbox Monitoring

Defines whether Mapp Engage measures the deliverability rate of messages in the group.

Inbox monitoring sends a copy of your message to a list of artificial control email addresses. To estimate the deliverability rate of your message, Mapp Engage monitors the performance of these messages across different email service providers. For example, Hotmail and gmail. The control addresses are generated automatically and include addresses at all major email service providers.

  • Measure Deliverability with Inbox Monitoring: Activates the Inbox Monitoring feature for messages that are sent in the group.

Automatic Link Redirection

This area controls timed link redirection. With timed link redirection, you specify that after a certain length of time, all links in a message are redirected to a different page. For example, to the start page of the online shop. Redirection prevents recipients who click a message link later from landing on a page that is out of date or no longer exists.

When you create an email, you can exclude specific links from automatic redirection manually.

Setting

Description

New Link Destination

Defines the destination URL. After the specified number of days, Mapp Engage redirects the expired links to this address.

Enter the network protocol and address.

Example:
http://www.mypage.com

After x Days

Defines when the redirection takes place. This time frame is valid for all messages in this group. The time when the link is redirected is defined in days after the original sendout. Days are measured in 24-hour periods. For example, if the sendout takes place at 10 a.m., the links will redirect at 10 a.m. after the specified number of days.

Link Parameters

This area defines parameters that are added to the links of a message. When a contact clicks the link, Mapp Engage transmits the link parameter to a web analytics tool or ecommerce system.

When a prepared message is sent with link parameters, the link parameters remain in the message links for all future sendouts of the message. Even if you delete the link parameters in the group settings, the link parameters are not removed from the message. To remove link parameters from a prepared message that has already been sent, contact your customer representative.

For more information, see Parameters in Message Links.

Setting

Description

Add Link Parameter

This area defines the parameters that are added to the links.

  • The  symbol adds two new parameter fields.
  • The first field defines the name of the parameter.
  • The second field assigns a value to the parameter.
  • Personalization: Opens the Personalization Parameters window. In this window, attributes that are stored in the system can be selected for the parameter value. The personalisation is added to the input field by clicking in the field, opening the personalisation window, and selecting the desired personalisation.
  • Web Analytics: This button opens the window Select a web analytics service. In this window, predefined configured parameters for the web analytics systems that Mapp Engage has a standard interface for are selected. The link parameters that the web analytics system needs for reporting are automatically generated (see Web Analytics Integrations).

Exclude Links

Link Parameters add a certain piece of information to each link of a message. Sometimes it is necessary to define that some links are not tracked. For example, the unsubscribe link. To exclude links form tracking, you indicate that no tracking parameters are added to these links.

In this area, you can create rules that tell Mapp Engage not to add link parameters to certain types of links.

Example: You want to exclude all links that contain a certain string of characters. To exclude all links that contain the word Google, you insert .*google.* in the first input field.

For more information, see Exclude Links From Link Parameters .

  • The symbol adds two new fields where you can enter a regular expression and a description of your rule. To exclude multiple links, click the  symbol again.
  • Regex to Identify the Link: Defines a regular expression to determine when a link is excluded.
For more information about regular expressions, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regex.
  • Description of the Pattern: Defines a description for the pattern that is used to exclude the link. You can enter any text in this field. Enter a text that helps you to remember what kind of rule you created.
