Compose Email Template (window)
Navigation Path
- In the Main Navigation, click
Content > Email.
⇒ The Email window opens to the Email Messages tab. - Select the Email Template tab.
⇒ The Select Email Template window opens. - In the Select Email Template window, click a template name.
⇒ The Edit, Copy, and Delete options display. - Click Edit.
⇒ The Compose Email Template window opens to the Edit tab.
Purpose
In this window, you define your email template. You can specify the layout and content of your email template and then save it for use in your email messages.
What can I do in this window?
Define information including the template name, template description, and more.
Add blocks to the template.
Change the position of the blocks in the template.
View the HTML code of your template.
Actions
Action | Description |
---|---|
Save | Saves the changes. The window remains open for further editing. Changes will be saved automatically every 10 minutes. |
Save & Close | Saves the changes and closes the window. The Email Templates tab opens. Here you can locate all your templates. |
Cancel | Closes the window without saving your changes. The Email Templates tab opens. |
Information Tab
Here you can enter the basic metadata of your email template.
Depending on the configuration of your framework, you can individually edit several settings for your template.
These settings include the background colour of headline blocks or URLs for banner blocks.

Setting | Description |
---|---|
Name | Defines the name of the template in Engage. The name is a mandatory input field. The maximum name length is 250 characters. |
Description | Defines a description for the template. The description is an optional input field. The maximum description length is 3000 characters. Use this input field to provide additional information about the template. |
Textual fallback | Use this field to define the textual message that will be delivered to the devices not able to render HTML content. This textual message will be inherited by all email messages that use this template. |
Group | Use this field to define the group that has membership attributes you would like to use for the conditional sendout option. The group that you define here will be automatically transferred to the messages using this template and finally to the Sendout configuration step. You will still be able to change it on that step. |
Message category | Use this field to pre-define the message category for the current message. The message category that is defined here will be automatically transferred to all messages using this template and finally to the Sendout configuration step. You will still be able to change it on that step. |
Sendout condition | Use this field to search for any of the existing segments and set the sendout conditions as needed, e.g. assign a different segment to each of the blocks in the email compose flow. |
Tags | Defines the tags that are assigned to the template. |
Character Encoding | Defines the character encoding of the template. The following options are available:

Image Handling | Defines how Engage handles images in the message.
You can exclude individual images from the selected image handling method. This method can help to keep the overall email size low. |
Procedures
Edit Tab
The Edit tab allows you to define the layout of your email template. Here you can drag the available blocks to the desired position to form the layout for your future email message.
To see a summary of the most important block details, click a block. The block metadata appear on the right-hand side. If you want to change details of the selected block, switch to the Blocks tab.
Code Tab
The Code tab displays the HTML code of your complete email template. Here you can check the configuration of all the blocks in your template. You cannot edit the code of the template in this view. To edit the code of a block, switch to the Blocks tab.
