Goal

To send a message to multiple groups at the same time.

Background Information

A SuperGroup makes it possible to create and send a message to more than one group at a time. A message sent to a SuperGroup is sent to all the members of all the subgroups.

You can use SuperGroups to send email messages, SMS messages, and mobile push notifications.

Example: You have 30 different email newsletter groups. You want to send the same holiday newsletter to all 30 groups. Instead of creating 30 sendouts, you can create a SuperGroup, and add all the groups to this SuperGroup as subgroups.

The groups added to a SuperGroup are called subgroups in Mapp Engage. The message that is sent to the SuperGroup is called a SuperMessage. All members of the subgroups receive the SuperMessage. Members of the SuperGroup itself do not receive a copy of the SuperMessage.

Prerequisites

Create the groups that you want to add to the SuperGroup.

Procedure

Create a SuperGroup

  1. In the Main Navigation menu, click Audience > Groups.
    ⇒ The Group window opens.
  2. Click Create.
⇒ The Group Details window opens.
  3. In the input field Name, enter a name for the group. You can change the name of the group at any time.
The group name is not necessarily the sender name that contacts see in their email inbox. The sender name is managed in the group settings, on the Reply Handling tab.
  4. In the input field Email, enter an email address for the group. You cannot change the group email address later.
The group email address is not necessarily the from address that contacts see in their email inbox. You can see the from address in the Details area below the table. The from address is managed in the group settings, on the Reply Handling tab.

When you send a normal message to this group, Mapp Engage uses the name and from address that you define here or in the group settings. When you send a SuperMessage to this group, Mapp Engage uses the name and from address of each subgroup.

  5. Set an optional group category. Group categories are assigned to groups in Mapp Engage to make it easier to organize different types of groups. Only one category can be assigned to a group at any time. Group categories can be assigned, changed, or removed at any time in the group settings. For more information, see ⇘ General Settings (tab).

  6. Select whether the owner of the group is also a normal member (recipient) of the group. This membership is no different from any other contact added to the group and can be deleted at any time.

  7. Select the SuperGroup check box.

  8. Click the Create button.
⇒ Mapp Engage creates a SuperGroup.
You can now create the settings for the SuperGroup. For more information, see General Settings (tab).

When you send a normal message to this group, Mapp Engage uses the group settings for this group.

When you send a SuperMessage to this group, Mapp Engage uses the group settings of each subgroup.

Add Subgroups to the SuperGroup

  1. In the Main Navigation menu, click Audience > Groups.

  2. Any SuperGroups visible in the Group Overview window are marked by an (S) behind their group name.
  3. Select Edit Subgroups from the Actions column.
⇒ The Edit Subgroups window opens.
  4. Click the Add Subgroup button.
  5. In the window that opens, select the groups you want to add to the SuperGroup. To select multiple groups, select the check boxes in the column on the right side.
