The SMS scenarios library describes marketing programs that you can set up for SMS.

Scenarios combine inspiring marketing ideas with guided setup instructions. They are designed to help you to reach your marketing goals with the tools available in Mapp Engage. Each scenario provides setup instructions.

Basic SMS Setup Scenarios

It can be tricky to know how to set up your SMS programs. These three guides help you to plan a basic SMS program. Your optimal program depends on your subscription method (import or inbound SMS) and on the number of SMS programs you want to run.

Scenario

Description

Code Types

SMS Program With Import, Unsubscribe, Automations

  • You import mobile numbers into Mapp Engage with a file (CSV, XML or text file).

  • Contacts can send inbound SMS messages to Mapp Engage to take part in programs or deals.
Incoming SMS messages that contain certain words (like coupon or vote) initiate a corresponding event-based automation in Mapp Engage.

  • Contacts can unsubscribe from the SMS messaging program at any time.
To unsubscribe, a contact sends an SMS to Mapp Engage that contains a word such as quit, unsubscribe or cancel.

This scenario can work with any type of mobile code (dedicated short code, shared short code or long number).

SMS Program With Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Automations

  • Contacts can subscribe to Mapp Engage by sending an inbound SMS to a short code.

This scenario works with shared short code and one keyword that you register with SAP.

SMS Program With Multiple SMS Groups

  • Contacts can subscribe to one of several different Mapp Engage groups. Subscription takes place with an inbound SMS to Mapp Engage. A contact can be a member of more than one group.

  • Contacts can unsubscribe from one of the SMS messaging programs at any time.
When they unsubscribe from one group, contacts remain a member of the other SMS groups.
To unsubscribe, a contact sends an SMS to Mapp Engage that contains a word such as quit, unsubscribe or cancel and that indicates which group the contacts wants to opt out of.

This scenario does not allow dialogue marketing with automations. You can only send SMS messages to the various groups. Subscribers can unsubscribe, but they cannot participate in any deals or promotions that require a special inbound SMS.

This scenario works with shared short code and two or more keywords that you register with SAP.

Ongoing SMS Programs

Once you have your basic SMS setup in place, you can use the following automations for ongoing SMS campaigns. Use these automations to develop and fine-tune your SMS marketing program. Almost any combination of automations is possible.

Scenario

Description

Send Info or T&C via SMS

  • An SMS subscriber sends an SMS to the group to get more information or assistance. The inbound SMS contains one of the following words: help, T&C, assist, assistance or info.

  • In response, Mapp Engage sends the subscriber a prepared message via SMS. The prepared message contains information about the SMS program and the terms and conditions of participation.

Send a Reply to Inbound SMS

  • An SMS subscriber sends an SMS to the group that contains a certain word. For example, VOTE or COUPON.

  • In response, Mapp Engage sends the subscriber a prepared message via SMS.

Move SMS Replies to Different Engage Group

  • A contact sends an inbound SMS to the group. You can optionally limit the automation to SMS replies that contain a certain word or words.

  • In response, Mapp Engage automatically moves the contact to a different Mapp Engage group. The contact is removed from the source group.

Use Inbound SMS Text in an Email

  • Record the content of SMS messages that contacts send to your Mapp Engage system.

  • Use this text for further communication with contacts. For example, use a placeholder to insert the text into an email. The placeholder has the following format: <%${user.CustomAttribute['Name']}%>

Many of the automation scenarios that you can send with email work just as well with SMS.

Here are some automation scenarios that would work especially well with SMS:
