This chapter explains how to:

  • Create email messages
  • Insert images into those messages
  • Create categories for email messages

Methods for Creation

Method

Description

Write or Paste Content

In the content area of the message creation wizard, you compose an email message using HTML code. The editor highlights HTML syntax and displays numbers for each line of code. Commonly, the HTML code is developed in a separate tool and uploaded to Mapp Engage or pasted directly into the editor.

For more information, see HTML Code View.

Upload an Email Message

Upload Message Parts

You can create an entire message or part of a message in an external tool, then upload the content into Mapp Engage for sendout.

In the Upload Message Parts window, you can import the following:

  • An email part that contains HTML.

  • An email part that contains plain text.

  • An external CMS message.

For more information, see Upload Message Parts (window).

Use the Graphical Editor

This editor allows you to edit an email message without any knowledge of HTML.

When you create an email as both an HTML and text version, Mapp Engage automatically creates a multi-part message. Mapp Engage includes both message parts as a MIME message. The read mode of the contact determines which message part Mapp Engage sends. If both parts are sent, the email client decides which version to display depending on the preferences of the contact.

Add or Edit Images in Emails

Image Hosting

Description

Image Links are Unchanged

Mapp Engage does not change the image address in any way. When the email is downloaded in the inbox, the images are downloaded from the URL you specified. Use this option when the link contains additional information - for example, parameters for a tracking pixel.

Images are Inlined (Offline HTML)

Images are inserted into the email as inline attachments. This option increases the size of the email message.

Use this option when you want email recipients to be able to display the images even when offline.

Images are Hosted in Mapp Engage (Online HTML)

Images are uploaded to the Mapp Engage servers. When the recipient opens the email, the images are downloaded from the Mapp Engage server.

Flash movies (*.swf) in the HTML and Flash HTML message fields are treated as images. You cannot inline files with these formats.

You can create image maps in Mapp Engage. This feature allows you to embed hyperlinks in different areas of an image in an email message. When recipients click that part of the image, the embedded hyperlink takes them to the correct landing page. For more information, see Insert or Edit Image Map (window).

Create Tags and Categories

Object

Description

Tag

A tag is a keyword that you create and assign to messages in Mapp Engage. Use tags to organize and search for messages. You can add multiple tags to a message.

For instructions, see Add Tags to a Message.

Message Category

A message category is a keyword that you assign to one or more related messages. Categories enable you to organize and identify related objects in the system. For example, use a message category to create a selection of contacts who opened messages in a specific category. Or, use a message category in an automation to initiate a job after every sendout of a message in a certain category.

For more information, see Message Categories.

Link Category

A link category is a keyword that you assign to one or more related links. Categories enable you to organize and identify related objects in the system. For example, use link categories to evaluate related links in the statistics. Or, use link categories in an automation to react when a contact clicks a link in a specific link category.

For more information, see Link Categories.

Create Email Messages with Templates

The Content Creation (Email) feature lets you create your message layout and message content separately. This separation supports the creation of messages and message content, whether or not you have HTML experience. In this area, you create email messages that are based on email templates within a visual editor.

Reusable email templates allow you to create email messages with a consistent look and feel. Create email templates for all your campaigns and make the creation of email messages easier for all your team members.

If you want, you can give your email developers access to the new feature as well. System users with knowledge of HTML for email can create and change HTML code of frameworks and blocks directly in your system.

Changes to frameworks and blocks are applied to all your email templates automatically. That makes your email creation process more flexible and efficient.

The Content Management (Email) feature currently supports the creation of HTML email messages only. Multipart email messages and plain-text email messages are not supported yet.
